Belvedère allée André Ménard
Commissioned by the City of Rennes
Creating my first mural in a public space was a particularly rewarding experience. The site had an unusual layout: the wall plunges into the Vilaine River, creating a captivating reflection of the mural on the water.
Painting outdoors is a real pleasure, as it creates a balance between my inner creative world, which guides my hand, and the many interactions with passers-by of all ages and backgrounds, who are always curious to discover the motif. Walkers, joggers and kayakers can observe a direct resonance between the river, the vegetation and the aquatic and plant accents of the repetitive shapes in the mural. The choice of a very warm and bright yellow catches the eye from afar, providing a strong marker and visual landmark in the neighbourhood.
Technique
For this project, the city of Rennes temporarily lowered the level of the Vilaine river in order to carry out various works on the banks. As always, I began by drawing the entire motif in pencil on a background that had already been painted yellow. The final touch was then to go over the shapes in black. I had four weeks to complete the mural before the water covered the banks again.
