SNCF Pontchaillou railway station

Commissioned by SNCF in partnership with the Tout Atout association (Rennes).

Project carried out with young people and educators from the Tout Atout association, with the help of young people from the La Touche neighbourhood. A wonderful human and artistic experience, driven by genuine teamwork.

Like a giant mandala, this method of painting repetitive shapes over and over again requires great precision and constant patience. It is a real test of one's level of calm! It was the tranquillity and diligence of the young participants that made this project a success. The process of creating the mural has a meditative, almost hypnotic quality to it.

During the two months of production, many passengers travelling on the Rennes–Saint-Malo / Saint-Brieuc line were able to follow and appreciate the progress of the work on a daily basis.

Technique

For this project, we began by painting the entire wall white, before drawing the pattern across the entire surface. Each shape was then filled with different colours, in the style of a mandala. Finally, a black border was added to highlight and structure the shapes, providing the finishing touch to the mural's design.
